Rice & Robots
A three-year-old in Canggu, Bali is getting to know the farmers who grow rice behind his house. One day he plans to build them things. This is where we keep track.
What this is
Max is three. He speaks Indonesian and English, he is very good with anything that has a screen, and he lives next to some of the last working rice fields in Canggu.
Instead of letting the screens pull him indoors, we are turning them into tools he carries outside: a camera, a notebook, and later, code.
Max berumur tiga tahun.

The tech comes last. The relationships come first, and they start now.

Walk
Early mornings on the field paths. Same route, same greeting: Selamat pagi, Pak! One new word each time.
Look
Max takes the photos on a kid-proof camera. Ducks, water, hats, machines. Later we look at them together; that is his screen time.
Tell
Three sentences a day in the Field Book, in his words. They become this site, and the letters.
Invite
Once a season a farming family comes to dinner. Max greets them and asks one question.
